Conversations with Designer

First I wanted to try help narrow down the desired silhouette and pick a rough era to work from – play is set over several decades and the director wanted it to be whimsical and eclectic regardless.

I had continuous conversations back and forth with the designer, I put forward my own ideas in response to her initial mood board. The key elements I took of the character was that she is eccentric, progressive and sophisticated.

Figuring out construction

Discussed with designer the key elements of the design and any specific requirements from the play e.g. quick changes

Using references to start a clear visual communication and explain how different techniques give very different appearances. This also helped me to gage things like much volume she wanted in the skirt to know how much fabric I would need to buy
