1920's Style Suit Jacket

This suit was a project to introduce me to tailoring, whilst making design decisions for characterisation. I decided to make a conceptual design for the character of Tadzio from the opera, film and novella ‘Death in Venice’. Played by Björn Andrésen in 1971 film adaptation, Tadzio is described as being youthful and androgynous, with an ethereal beauty continually compared to Greek statues.

This suit is made for Tadzio when he is older so is inspired by 1920’s fashion plates. Made from a black pinstripe it features a wide lapel, jetted pockets with flaps and two vents. I made this suit on a work placement with tailor Gregory Rostek.
